For this holiday season, please support Darfurian refugees living in U.S.!  See more

THE STORY:

For more than a decade, the people of Darfur, Sudan have suffered from a genocide and other severe violence at the hands of their own government. At least 400,000 people have been killed, and nearly 2.5 million people have been displaced. To escape the violence, many Darfurians fled to the U.S. as refugees and asylees. Although they no longer face the violence, many are still struggling. There are a variety of challenges, including those associated with adjusting to a new life in the U.S. and those related to overcoming the violence and trauma experienced in Sudan.

With this fundraiser, you will be able to help these Darfurian refugees with emergency needs, such as food, housing, education, and medical care. Your generous donations will make a big difference in individual lives!

You will help a mother with a severe medical condition get transportation from Darfur to a hospital in the capital of Sudan where she can receive the proper medical treatment. You will help keep a young man with a family from losing his home during the winter season. You will bring much-needed school supplies to Darfurian children so that they can get a head start on the second semester of school in 2013. And, you will ensure that a young, single mother and her daughter have enough to eat.

Here is what your donations can accomplish (the amounts below are minimums):

$20: Purchase two children books for Darfurian kids learning to read (*more than 25 kids need these books)
$30: Provide school supplies for one child for the 2013 Winter Semester (*more than 25 kids are concerned)
$50: Purchase of winter clothing for two Darfurian children living in the Northeast (*more than 25 kids need clothes)
$100: Provide food for one week for a small refugee family (incl. food items, paper goods, and basic household supplies)
$200: Connect Darfurians to vital mental health and medical care
$300: Help prevent a Darfurian refugee in the U.S. from becoming homeless (*this cover only part of rent)
$400: Provide transportation to emergency medical care for one Darfurian woman in Sudan to save her life
$1,000: Enable IJP staff to conduct health and human rights workshops for Darfurian refugees living in the U.S.

It is the holiday season, and this is a great way to make a real difference and start the new year right! Please help us to bring holiday cheer to these families.

And, your donations are tax-deductible to the extent permitted under the applicable law.

Sincerely,
The IJP Team
