Suffering from a great deal of depression 2010 was a brutal year I had recently lost my best friend, Dorothy, to Breast Cancer, we had other family members sick with cancer as well. I just didn't know what I could do.
I turned so much of that grief inward. No matter how stressed out I was or out of time I always said to my husband Ron "we can always do more or find time for family, if they need us we need to be there for them". This is easier said than done and comes with commitment and follow thru. It is easy to ignore your own health while caring for others. I knew I needed to be present for my kids and I was determined to turn my own health around in memory of my best friend.
Another way I chose to give back was to participate in the Susan G. Komen foundation Ride for the Cure. I raise funds in this unique equestrisn event to support services and research to find a cure for breast cancer. This fundraiser is aimed specifically at helping women in Connecticut. In memory of Dorothy I ride and raise funds.
I would absolutely love a donation to my ride, that is tax deductible. Every cent counts!!
Breast cancer touches so many. Komen Connecticut invites you to saddle up and spend an October day enjoying the sights throughout the "Quiet Corner" of Connecticut - all while raising funds and awareness for the local fight against breast cancer. Ride for the Cure is a fun day for friends, family and loved ones of all ages.
Did you know that Connecticut has the HIGHEST incidence of breast cancer in the U.S. with over 3,000 Connecticut women diagnosed annually? Komen Connecticut needs you as a part of our crusade to end breast cancer forever. Your fundraising efforts will help save the lives of Connecticut women.
