BENEFITING: International Rescue Committee
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is an organization that creates opportunities for the thousands of refugees that enter America each year. The primary services of the IRC in America include resettlement, economic empowerment, access to education, dietary guidance, and the promotion of legal rights. When refugees arrive in New York City, they are given a modest amount of money to help them settle into their new lives. However, this money only lasts about two months in NYC as the price of living is so high. The IRC in NYC has therefore created an emergency fund for local refugee needs that mostly focuses on helping settled refugees pay their rents, while also supporting them in their day-to-day needs that many people often take for granted (eg. money for a new cooking pan or clean sheets). This summer, as I am volunteering for the IRC, I will be raising money for the IRC's local fund in NYC and I would love all the help I can get to fulfill my fundraising goal of $5,000. Thank you so much!
