On October 14, 2010, our son, LCpl Alec E. Catherwood , 19, USMC; was killed in action in Afghanistan. Alec was part of the Marine Corps 3/5 Darkhorse unit. During their deployment, 25 men were killed and over 200 were wounded, many severely. To honor those 25 men and to help the brave men and women who serve in combat, we are building a retreat. Named for the unit, Darkhorse Lodge will be a peaceful retreat for combat veterans. Combat veterans from every branch of service, from every war/conflict, men and women, young and old. They will be able to gather here, communicate with those who have been where they've been, done what they've done and seen what they've seen. We will take them fishing on nearby Kentucky Lake and offer rest, relaxation and recreation. Will you please help us?
