"Approximate Location" (tentative title!) is a new work that will be presented by darlingdance company at the Eureka Dance Festival in DC. I'm creating a 15-minute work with 6 dancers, studying the concept of proximity and its many forms as a basis for movement inspiration. I am interested in how our movement changes and what our bodies feel when we are incredibly close or far from something, tangible or intangible. I use choreology-based tasks and Rudolf Laban's effort theories to explore this concept with my dancers. We hope to change the face of dance in DC and bring back the experimental vibe of the Judson Church era and pioneers like Trisha Brown.
