I completed the 540 mile, 6 day ride from Houston to New Orleans, but i am significantly behind in meeting my fundraising target of $3,000 (only about 23% of target). I rode hard, finishing as part of the lead group most days.
On the final day, I had the pleasure of having my mom and I tandem the final 84 miles from Gonzales to New Orleans. The day saw the field of 92 riders encounter well over 100 flats - with us getting one of our own and helping change many others.
Just as I had remembered from riding this event in 2010, the roads were still rough, but the group of riders were awesome. I made many new friends and enjoyed being able to pray over the group each morning before we hit the road.
Unfortunately, my experience was not without a terrible loss. On Easter weekend, Jon Trevalese (Papa Trev) was hit by a car whilke riding the shoulder of a road in Galveston he had riding numerous times as he trained for what would have been his 6th Tour du Rouge. Although we prayed daily for Jon's recovery from a severe head injury, the Lord had other plans and we lost Papa Trev on Friday (May 16th). He is already missed by many and his family is asking that we donate to the American Red Cross in his memory - he was passionate about the way the Red Cross ouches so many broken lives.
I have until June 1st to reahc my goal and I hope you will help me cross this finish line also. For those that have already contributed, thank you so much.
