BENEFITING: Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
EVENT: Lake George Marathon Swim
EVENT DATE: Sep 17, 2016
On September 17th and 18th 2016, teams of marathon swimmers will swim the 32 mile length of Lake George, NY to commemorate the first swims of the length of the "Queen of American Lakes" decades ago. My team includes researchers who are also scientific divers with the Darrin Fresh Water Institute, with laboratory and other facilities in Bolton Landing, NY adjacent to Lake George. The Institute is a Research Center of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, the oldest educational institution of its kind in the USA. As part of our efforts we hope to raise funds for the Institute that will be used to advance continuing cutting edge research and education in a range of venues, especially aquatic ecosystems and effects on them, understanding and developing means of addressing aquatic invasive species, and the Institute's primary mission of educating and training undergraduate, graduate, post-graduate doctoral and post doctoral students as scientists who will be involved in continued research and education well into the future.
So cheer us on, and if you're inclined (and have enjoyed or learned anything from my personal or business Facebook posts about work at the Institute), please make a contribution to the Darrin Fresh Water Institute by donating to this fundraiser. It may come in handy as matching funds for research grants from public and private sources that the Institute relies on for most of its work.
