All my adult life I have counted on fellow Dartmouth athletes for all things good in life. So—here’s a chance for us to team up again to get behind a special sports-centered initiative called NativeVision to promote health and education for Native American youth. NativeVision is an innovative program that uses sports as a hook to encourage youth to stay in school, lead healthy lifestyles, avoid alcohol and drugs, and achieve their dreams. It is propelled by professional and college athletes who serve as mentors/coaches at the annual intensive Native Vision camps. Since it was launched in 1996, NativeVision has become one of the largest youth development initiatives serving American Indians in the country, reaching over 40,000 Native youth and families. Dartmouth alums and students have been a key part of NativeVision since its inception. They have been founders, directors, alumni volunteers, and most recently--current Dartmouth student-athletes are supported by the Dartmouth athletic department to help run sports clinics at NativeVision’s national summer camp. Join the Dartmouth team today to send more Native youth to NativeVision summer camps and NativeVision year-round educational enrichment programs. Go Big Green! -Allison Barlow, Dartmouth ’86, NativeVision co-founder and Director, Johns Hopkins Center for American Indian Health
