I am proud to support Sutter Roseville’s wonderful Pet Therapy Program, which allows hospital patients the opportunity for visits from 4-legged friends (primarily dogs, but we also have a miniature pony!). These animals and their trainers provide comfort, joy, and a welcome distraction for patients with a wide variety of health issues, whether recovering from surgery or going through physical therapy. These visits can help reduce pain and anxiety, and can be as calming for the patient as for their families.
Each team is certified through Pet Partners and has many hours of personalized training with the program’s coordinator, Kathy Montgomery. It might seem like a simple thing, but Kathy has the expertise that enables her to make the right selections and to properly train each of the teams for visits in an acute care setting.
Each handler and pet participate in 4 to 6 orientation visits to the hospital with the Trainer prior to going it alone. Within 24 hours before visiting the hospital, each animal must be bathed, clipped and groomed, which takes a huge commitment from the “human” member of each team.
Your funds will help support this wonderful program - we are up to 22 teams of pets and their owners, working throughout the hospital, and we anticipate significant additional demand now that our new Cancer Center is open, with pet teams working in the infusion center.
As a member of the Sutter Roseville Medical Center Foundation Board of Trustees, I raise both awareness and donations for equipment, programs, and services at Sutter Roseville. The Pet Therapy Program can exist only as a result of your philanthropic donations, and I know this program helps enhance and support excellent patient care in a very unique way.
I am committed to helping make certain Sutter Roseville has the highest quality health care services available for generations to come. Please help me support the healthcare needs of our community by donating to the Pet Therapy Program.
