Dave's Dash for Traumatic Brain Injury Awareness
Organized by: David Alliger
EVENT DATE Jul 10, 2016
My name is Dave Alliger and I am participating in the Utica Boilermaker on July 10th in Utica, NY. This race is one of the most prestigious and grueling races in the entire United States. I'm not running this race just for fun (that'd be quite stupid!), I'm running to raise awareness for Traumatic Brain Injuries, specifically at the local level with ARISE of Oswego County.
According to the Centers for Disease and Prevention (CDC), an estimated 2.5 million people sustain a traumatic brain injury (TBI) each year. Of those individuals, 52,000 die, 275,000 are hospitalized, and 1.4 million are treated and released form an emergency department. Individuals who have sustained a brain injury are often times misdiagnosed, misunderstood, and the programs to support are under-funded.
ARISE is a non-profit Independent Living Center that provides disability services for people of all ages and abilities in Syracuse and Central New York.
