David and Abbey Le Roy's Adoption
Organized by: Abbey Le Roy
The Finish Line
November 20, 2017
Dear Family and Friends,
Expounding on a well-known quote by Frederick Buechner, Michael Hyatt noted that “our ministry is the intersection of our passion and the world’s greatest need”. As we’ve waited for a child, God used an ongoing struggle with infertility to open our eyes and soften our hearts to the children around the world who are waiting for parents. We believe international adoption is the God-ordained intersection of our longing to provide a loving home to children with the global need for willing parents.
Although we feel Bluefield is where we’re supposed to be, we also have an increasingly urgent desire to be strategically engaged in what God is doing around the world. The call to international adoption allows us to continue investing in our community while also taking the gospel to the world by bringing the world into our home. Knowing we only have one life to live and desiring to spend it for the glory of God, we are enthusiastic in this adoption journey.
After prayerfully selecting an adoption agency and exploring the countries it serves, we felt burdened for the people of Bulgaria. Located in Eastern Europe and bordering Turkey, Bulgaria is ethnically diverse and has been influenced by several cultures and religions. According to Operation World, of Bulgaria’s 34 people groups, 24% are still unreached. The Joshua Project adds that 9.2% of the total population is unreached.
When we browsed the list of waiting children in Bulgaria, we were introduced to a four-year-old boy (who has since turned five) and felt an immediate attachment. He has special needs and although there are many things we can't guarantee, we know for sure that he will grow up in a home where he’s loved and celebrated for who he is. He’ll hear the gospel and, Lord willing, he’ll be able to understand and respond to the truth.
As they say, “It takes a village to raise a child”, and in this case, it will also take a village to bring our child home. Upon learning about him, we immediately reduced our monthly expenses so that we can set aside as much as possible out-of-pocket for his adoption. But we can’t do it alone. The total cost of our adoption is approximately $25,000, including legal fees and immigration costs as well as airfare, food, lodging, transportation, and a translator for two trips to Bulgaria.
We invite you to join us on this journey, first of all in prayer. Please pray for the process to move smoothly, for us to be prepared to parent our son, for him to respond well to us, and for his continued development. Second, we humbly ask you to consider partnering with us financially. We have a few fundraisers planned – David’s woodworking, a church luncheon, t-shirt sales, and more – so be on the lookout for more information about these opportunities. Additionally, you may make contributions directly through this site if you feel so led.
We can’t wait to bring our son home, and we thank you in advance for your support along the way.
With deepest gratitude,
David and Abbey
