THAT'S OUR BOY DAVID DOWN LEFT! COME ON. LOOK AT THAT FACE! THAT FOCUS!  See More

THE STORY:

Since our nephew David Atencio Jr. first shot a basketball into the hoop at four years old, he has been devoted to his dream of being a top college and pro athlete.

Now a powerful, starting, All-League Point Guard for Varsity Basketball and starting, All-league Wide Receiver for Varsity Football on Edison High School Teams, (along with participation in highly ranked, and nationally competitive AAU teams,) the player David has become is nothing short of phenomenal.

At a mere 16 years old, David has already been written up in The Los Angeles Times, touted by Sports Journalist, Eric Sondheimer as the young athlete 'everyone is making big plans to take advantage of his athleticism,' for Basketball AND Football.

David can be found most evenings shooting hoops alone, long past midnight, at 24 Hour Fitness, after grueling practices/games, so he can be the very best player he can be 24/7, 360.

DAVID ATENCIO IS ONE OF THE BEST ATHLETES I HAVE EVER COACHED IN MY 37 YEARS AT EDISON! HE IS ALSO ONE OF MY FAVORITES BECAUSE OF HIS PASSION AND DEDICATION TO THE GAME!!!  Dave White, Head Football Coach, Edison Highschool

In David's freshman and sophomore years of high school, he's already had verbal interest from top universities such as Stanford, Pepperdine, Virginia, Portland State and Montana State.

As a junior next year, David will finally be primed for these potential offers to be fully realized. Which brings us to the crux of our fundraiser. Last month David endured an untimely and horrific complete tear to his ACL ligament in his right knee. Being the promising competitive athlete that he is, David requires the most modern form of this surgery, performed by the most skillful surgeon available to get him, 'back in the game,' A.S.A.P.

David is the unique player who is not only a very good player but very humble and wants what is best for the team before himself.  He is the consummate team player.  He is as good a point guard as Edison has had in the past 2 decades.  He is also a tremendous football player.  He is the kind of person Edison is proud to say is a Charger not only because of his success on the court or field but because of the way he carries himself off of the playing fields.  He is the total package.

Rich Boyce, Edison High School Athletic Director, Head Mens Basketball Coach

David is very blessed with exceptionally supportive parents David Sr. and Kari Atencio. Since the beginning, the pair have attended all of David's games and practices, lent countless hours coaching, heading up team support and fundraisers, all in an effort to promote their talented son's bright future and that of his teams.

Indeed Kari and David have given all of their time, energy and fiscal ability to nurturing all four of their kids, Alyssa, Lauryn and recently adopted Gasper, (whom they have fostered since he was 10 years old.)

David is one of the most impressive young man I have ever met.  He is all about TEAM, very unsellfish and is a very caring young man.  I am very impressed by him and know he will be wildly succesful in life.

Ryan Silver, President, West Coast Elite Basketball

Due to the sacrifices David and Kari have made the upcoming expenditure to get David the help he needs will undoubtedly thrust the family into challenging financial times.

It is for this reason that I'm sticking my neck out to encourage everyone to help by donating what we can for 'David Atencio Jr's, Back in the Game Fund!!!'

From my heart, this unique and talented kid (and family) deserve our help. I know David Jr. will surpass his wildest dreams given the opportunity.

No donation amount is too big or too small. Our appreciation of your help is beyond measure.

Thank you!
