What is Fragile X?
Imagine a family with a son who has autism, a mother who has had multiple miscarriages and a grandfather who suffers from Parkinson's, all due to a single gene. Imagine that gene passed down through the generations. That's pretty much the gist of Fragile X. You can learn more about Fragile X by clicking here.
What am I doing?
Even though the official run is a simple 5K walk or run, I'm dedicating my Rugged Maniac obstacle run with my friends in support of Fragile X.
Who am I doing this for?
The entire FX Community. But more specifically, my co-worker Sam Jacob-Harrigan, who has been diagnosed with fragile X syndrome. He is honestly one of the coolest people in the world. I pick up a million catchphrases from him, and we talk San Francisco Giants and San Jose Sharks at the office whenever he comes in.
Why am I doing this?
I've been working at the National Fragile X Foundation for just over 5 years now, and I've fallen in love with this community. While I'm working for them 8 hours a day, they are dealing with it 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. I'm inspired not only to give during my working hours, but my volunteer hours as well.
I helped come up with this online campaign in order to show that we can find supporters not only with the families affected, but with our friends and supporters.
I know many of you have other charities you like to support, and you may not know someone personally with Fragile X. But this is a very real and very dear cause to me, because of how much I've learned since working here. Even small donations will help me out! $5, $10, $20, $25 or more if you're feeling generous!
Best of all, if we reach our $40,000 goal, the amount will be matched!
