David Betances Charity Fund
Organized by: Anthony Osei-Tutu
EVENT DATE May 30, 2017
Dear Brothers of Mariners Lodge,
I hope this message meets you while you're in good spirits, and all is as well as can be. I am writing today to ask for your help with assisting a Brother in distress. Brother David Betances.
Let me start from the beginning,
Back in 2012 a mere few months after receiving his degree of fellowcraft Brother David Betances was stricken with a bout of pancreatic cancer. This was right before the birth of his daughter. Bro. Betances as many of you know has always been a man of mighty spirit and determination, and was committed to not let cancer get the best of him. He underwent a very dangerous medical procedure, that he was told had a low success rate, called the Whipple procedure, and was able to beat the cancer into remission. His health started to improve, he was able to return to work to support his family, and received his 3rd degree that November 2012.
Recently, he was told that the cancer has returned and is more aggressive. Once again our brave Brother has begun a battle for his life, with the strength and determination of a bull. He is determined to walk his three old daughter down the aisle on her wedding day, and to continue building a life with his beautiful wife, and elder daughter.
Fighting cancer is a costly affair, and there is no set amount of money that can ever truly cover the cost of all the treatments needed. That being said, a large part of our fraternal obligations is to relieve brothers in distress as much as we can. The principal officers of Mariners Lodge are asking you to contribute to the David Betances Charity Fund, with as much or as little as you can afford.
Our goal is to raise at least $2000 for Bro. Betances. The principal officers of the Lodge are committed to matching any donations made dollar for dollar up to $1000. We are hoping to present Bro. Betances with a check by the start of the New Year to help him manage his cost and to continue fighting the good fight.
