Wildlife Australia Fund, Inc (WAFI) is a US-based non-profit organization dedicated to protecting Australia's great wilderness areas and its threatened wildlife.
Australia is home to more biodiversity than any other developed nation on Earth with around 80% of these animals and plants only found in Australia. However, Australia has the worst mammal extinction rate in the world with more than 1,000 species teetering on the brink of extinction. Feral animals, wildfires and weeds are the key factors driving this extinction crisis. The role of feral cats alone - which kill 75 million native animals every day is particularly significant….. but thankfully there's hope.
The major partner of WAFI is the non-profit Australian Wildlife Conservancy (AWC) who owns 23 properties in Australia covering over 3 million hectares, or 7.4 million acres in iconic places such as the central Australian Outback, the Kimberley and Cape York.
AWC's strategy is practical and straightforward - buy land and then manage it effectively for wildlife conservation. AWC now protects over 83% of Australia's bird species and 67% of all mammal species including many of Australia's most endangered species including Yellow-footed Rock-wallabies, Bilbies and Gouldian Finches.
AWC is playing a key role in reversing the tide of extinction. By supporting Wildlife Australia, you can help AWC continue its effective strategy of practical land management and good science to defeat those forces that are destroying Australia's natural capital.
To put that in context, your support will help make a difference in the following ways:
$100 will fund the removal of feral herbivores from 20 hectares (50 acres) off the coast at Pungalina-Seven Emu
$300 will fund an ecologist for one day
$500 will fund raise collars for a pair of Western Barred Bandicoots
$1,000 will fund the removal of feral cats from around 50 hectares
$10,000 will fund fire management for a year
Thanks so much for your support.
