Dear Friends

We've had an early morning here in Boston. I dropped David off at 4:30 am so that he could meet up with his running partner Jennifer and walk over to the bus at the Boston Common for a 5am drive out to the marathon starting line in Hopkinton. His wave is projected to BEGIN running at 11am.

David was feeling good although was a little nervous about the run. I know this because he was unusually chatty for so early in the morning. Samantha, Tzipi and I will be there to see David and Jennifer at the halfway point in Wellesley and then will head downtown to meet them at the finish line.

For those of you watching from home or your mobile device, you can track their progress on the Boston Athletic Association website. Go to BAA.org, click on Athlete Tracking and enter runner number 21494 or the name Jennifer Herring. (As a guide for a visually impaired runner, David does not have his own number so you'll need to track Jennifer.)

Our entire family thanks you for your encouraging texts and emails, your financial support, and especially your friendship. Like so many worthwhile things, training for a marathon takes a village and we are grateful that you are part of the Crandell Village.

Much love,
Wendy (and David, Sam and Tzipi)

Stuff About Me:

I'm a husband, a father, a physician, a friend, and a runner.  Like it does for so many others, the Boston Marathon holds a special place in my heart.  Marathon Monday has always been a great day - my favorite day - to live in Boston.

My medical specialty is amputee rehabiliation and I've had the honor of caring for many limb loss patients, including the survivors of last year's marathon bombing.  Each and every day, I am inspired by my patients and gain strength from their strength.  I last ran Boston 20 years ago and I've always known that my 1994 run wouldn't be my last. This year, I am working hard to be in great shape (all of those 5am winter runs really do add up) and am looking forward to lacing up on April 21st.  For the first time, I'll be running with a blind runner.  William, an awesome guy from Texas is vision impaired and wouldn't be able to run without a guide.

I hope you will support me, the teams from Spaulding Rehabiliation Hospital and the Massachusetts Association for the Blind, and all of the runners who are helping to make the 2014 Boston Marathon the best ever.

Cheering us on is terrific.  Cheering for us AND making a donation is even better.

See you at the finish line!
