For the past several years I've participated in the Tour de BBQ, a bike ride around Kansas City that supports the Livestrong Foundation and all the great work they do. I think it's been said that most people in the world have been affected by cancer in some shape or form, and our family is no different. Since I began to participate in this event, I've done so in memory of my cousin Jason Villagran.
This year the Tour organizers are asking us to meet a very nominal fundraising goal of $75 and I'm asking for your help in meeting this goal. The money raised will go the University of Kansas Cancer Center, which was just named a comprehensive cancer center by the National Institutes of Health. For folks that weren't lucky enough to grow up right next to the best medical center in the world in Houston, access to quality care is a big deal in the midwest. When families have to seperate to recieve treament, it's like being kicked when you're already down. KU is hoping to solve that problem with our academic medical center and drug discovery program.
Our ride is this Saturday, October 2nd which is international LIvestrong Day, and there will be events all over the country to bring awareness to the fight against cancer. We start at 7:30 am and it's supposed to be in the low 40's at start time! No one ever seems to mind the cold though and it really is a great day for remembering those love ones we've lost and what we're going to do to honor their memory.
Thank you all for your help and I look forward to seeing you all soon.
