Last year was scheduled to be my final Boston Marathon. Due to events all too familiar to everyone, my marathon joy was cut short by the tragic events that unfolded on April 15, 2013. With my parents, wife and children having witnessed the first bomb and my friends having been injured in that explosion, my resolve to run yet another Marathon couldn't be any stronger or more personal.
This year I am raising money for the Solomon Schechter Day School of Greater Boston. The mission of the school is to help students become self-confident, compassionate and committed citizens who are prepared for the academic and social challenges of the modern world.
Having been witness to such a tragic event, I feel that the mission statement of Schechter could not be any more significant. It is more important than ever to support organizations such as Schechter in educating the next generation in being able to learn about the social challenges that they will face and to be able to deal with them through meaningful discussions and debates rather than resorting to violence to solve our differences. It is through the work of the Schechter community (students, parents, faculty and administration) that our children will be able to enter the world with the tools necessary to become active participants in the larger American society.
I thank you for your support.
