Chapter: Texas Christian University & Davidson College
Partner Organization: Triple Salto
This year, Nourish at Texas Christian University and Davidson College will invest $5,000 toward building a communitarian organic orchard greenhouse in collaboration with Triple Salto in Quito, Ecuador. Our Project will use agriculture as a way to battle malnourishment and ensure food security. The greenhouse will also provide a source of income and practical skills training necessary to end the cycle of poverty.
We are starting a two- year partnership with Triple Salto beginning in summer of 2015. Specifically, we will be focusing on sustainable agricultural and economic empowerment!
The mission of Triple Salto is to "investigate, innovate and interconnect Support efforts to create sustainable housing, urban regeneration and national park systems."
This project activates the local government, private sector, and the communities horizontally. Based on the microfinance principle of solidarity groups, communitarian organic orchards activate a "clan" organization inherent to Ecuadorian culture.
The goal: achieve a better future together. Agriculture in Quito seeks to improve the lifestyle, food security, and environmental awareness of the inhabitants of Quito by building capacity among those who are most vulnerable in the suburban and rural areas within the district. Our mission is to create sustainable sources of income by engaging producers and consumers in an organic-environmental-participative logic.
Your donation will be used for micro greenhouses, drop irrigation systems, orchard trees, implementing bio-farmers markets, tools for the team, and other supplies.
