News!: Exciting Guest Speaker Our Day of Learning
June 19, 2017
BENEFITING: NEW YORK CITY ARTS-IN-EDUCATION ROUNDTABLE INC
EVENT DATE: Jun 26, 2017
The NYC Arts in Education Roundtable seeks your support for its upcoming Day of Learning on June 26, 2017, a day-long training opportunity for arts educators on working with students with special needs.
The Day of Learning furthers the Roundtable’s commitment to programming that promotes equity, diversity, and inclusion in arts education.
The Keynote Speaker for our Day of Learning will be Ronnie Shuster, the dynamic (very recently-retired) principal of the Spectrum Schools in NYC, which focus on students on the autism spectrum. She spearheaded an incredible theater (and other arts) program at her school with amazing results. Here is a trailer for the fantastic documentary made about her students' journey to present their theater piece at a national competition.
The full day conference will include speakers offering a national perspective on the issues, as well as offer an opportunity to use participants’ own observations and experience. Hands-on workshops will focus on using a variety of art forms in working with students with a wide range of abilities and challenges and ability issues.
The Day of Learning will bring together artists, arts educators, administrators and support staff, such as therapists and disability activists and will focus on providing practical tools for participants to use in their practice.
The Roundtable serves arts education professionals, teaching artists, teachers, arts administrators and arts in education organizations by sharing best practices that can be shared in over 5,000 classrooms and 200,000 students grades K-12 in all five boroughs of New York City.
