Days for Girls -Eagle
Organized by: Helen Kilgo
On my own journey to find a healthy, eco friendly, and cost effective solution for self care with menstruation, I stated to make RUMPS (re-usable menstrual products), and while looking for patterns, I had an awakening. I discovered online how fortunate I am. In developing countries, the natural phenomenon that every woman experiences monthly, is considered taboo and unclean. Woman and girls do not have the resources to manage their menstrual cycles, this results in lost time at work, school dropout, school absence, and in some instances, sexual abuse. I am going to include some links to some websites that I viewed and some videos I watched. This made me think, what can I do? The answer to my question came from a non-profit organization called, "Days For Girls". My goal is to make 40 kits for teens and ten postpartum kits for new moms and girls with a heavier flow. The kits are approximately $10 a piece and consist of,
1.) Two gallon sized zip locks 2.) A travel sized bar of soap 3.) Two girls sized 10-14 panties 4.) 8 serged liners (these act as the absorbent layer in the kit) and 5.) Two waterproof shields for the liners to go in. The total cost for my goal is around $500. I have recruited friends to help me with the manufacturing and assembly of these kits. The "Days For Girls" organization's goal is to ensure that every girl, every where has a way to manage their menstrual cycle by 2022, Period. If you would like to help me reach my goal and empower girls around the world, please mail your donation to:
