THE STORY:

My mom spent two years in Africa helping the locals start up self-sufficient enterprises, one of which involves women caring for women—kits for girls to care for their bodies during menstruation so that they don't miss school! Just something most of us over in the states probably don't even consider! Here's what my mom (bless her pre-crowd-sourcing-digital-age heart) detailed about her desire to help these women some more:

"Many of you know of and have helped with the Days For Girls humanitarian project. This is the group of women I taught in Cameroon how to sew and create these kits. They have started a Days for Girls chapter in Yaounde and are doing an amazing job of getting the DfG kits to young women who need them to stay in school.

"I was contacted a few weeks ago by a woman who is wanting to get more of the DfG kits to girls and women in northern Cameroon. They would like the Yaounde chapter to make kits for them. I don't know how to do the funding you see online so I'm just going to put it out there on Facebook!

"This little chapter is in the process of raising some money to buy a piece of equipment that will make the production of these kits so much easier! It is manufactured in the United States and must be sent from here. If I can get the money raised and purchase this equipment, I have a way to have it taken to them without the chance of it being sent through the mail and never making it to the DfG chapter! If you could help in anyway I would greatly appreciate it! I am needing to raise around $900 in the next couple of weeks. The party going to Cameroon is leaving on September 2 so I would need to get the Accuquilter machine purchased and shipped before then. Please let me know if you would be willing to donate to make this happen! THANK YOU!"

I bumped the effort up to $1000 to cover the proceeds from each donation that go back to CrowdRise for hosting this online campaign. Think of how grateful you are for convenient sanitary products each month—then maybe donate a month's worth of products in the form of moolah here and bless lives across the planet! Merci beaucoup!
