See pictures of my plunge last year!!
In the heat of the summer of 2013, I walked along the Potomac River and participated in The 2013 Walk For Our Grandchildren to call for strong leadership on climate change for the sake of our children and grandchildren. Last fall, I participated in the People's Climate March in NYC along with over 400,000 people.
Now, in the dead of winter, I’ll be taking my 3rd quick dip into the icy Potomac River at National Harbor to again call for action on climate change. Chesapeake Climate Action Network (CCAN) has been front and center in the fight for clean energy and ending our reliance on fossil fuels and needs our support to continue the fight for our future.
So while these actions may seem crazy, I find it insane that we continue to blow up mountains to extract coal, pump toxic chemicals in the ground to extract natural gas, and strip-mine millions of acres of boreal forests to extract tar sands oil - all leaving behind a toxic brew. Our desire for cheap energy has led us down a path where we are poisoning ourselves and everything around us.
As Sandra Steingraber so eloquently wrote, “an intolerable rage” has begun to build within as I watch us destroy our only home in this universe. As a grandmother of 2, I want my grandchildren to live in a beautiful and healthy environment, not one ravaged by our addiction to fossil fuels. I want to be proud of our legacy and I want our children to be grateful that we took action for their future. A Native American proverb says it all:
“We do not inherit the Earth from our Ancestors; we borrow it from our children."
So please consider supporting my crazy adventure by supporting CCAN.
