We did it!

BENEFITING: Reclaim Childhood, Inc.
EVENT DATE: Mar 10, 2016
Sports. Sometimes I stop and marvel at their simplicity. The world’s most popular sports consist of kicking, throwing or carrying some form of inflated leather at a target or across a line. Yet, they have an extraordinary power to bring out the best in humanity, often in contrast to its worst. The Miracle on Ice, Jesse Owens’s gold medals in the 1936 Olympics, Jackie Robinson’s debut, Lou Gehrig’s farewell. They present a tangible challenge that requires mental and physical strength, along with a lot of help from other people. As such, they are formative.
They certainly were for me. From endless backyard basketball games of one-on-one with my brother, to competing as a collegiate athlete, to running in this Dead2Red relay race, sports have and will continue to be integral to who I am and who I will become.
My appreciation for this power and gratitude for the opportunities to play have driven my engagement with and support for Reclaim Childhood. RC’s mission is to bring the power of sports to girls and women in the Middle East. Reclaim Childhood runs after-school sports leagues, month-long summer camps and leadership programs out of Amman, Jordan and targets the most vulnerable girls and women in the community, including refugees ages 6-18 from Syria, Iraq and Palestine. By running soccer and basketball leagues, summer camps, coaching clinics and mother-daughter days, RC seeks to provide the same opportunities to these girls and women that so many of us have benefited from.
On March 10, ten people from six different countries – all connected by a love of sport – will run 150 miles from the Dead Sea to the Red Sea. As we tackle this challenge, we humbly ask for your support as we seek to empower girls and women in the Middle East by sharing our love of sports. We have set a goal to raise $5,000 or approximately a soccer ball for each mile we run. Every amount counts, no matter how small. Thank you for taking the time to learn about our mission. We appreciate your support.
