#DeadliftsforDepression 90 Second Challenge!!!
I remember mornings, still lying in bed, consciously awake but eyes not yet opened, when I would already be dreading the day. Every thought seemed to weigh 1000lbs. The length of the day, what I would have to do, how much energy I would need to muster up, how tired I already was, how bloated and unhappy I felt, and how I wished I could just disappear under the covers and sleep.
Depression and anxiety were not what I expected to experience at age 22, but there they were.
Long story short, exercise became my anti-depressant and food became my antidote. The power that physical movement has on the brain has been proven to be equally effective as treatment with an antidepressant prescription medication.
I used training in the gym, lifting weights, challenging my body to new physical levels, no matter how small, to literally lift myself out of my depression and rediscover my inner strength.
Currently a fitness speicalist and registered dietitian, I know many individuals inside and out of the industry that train because of the mental benefits exercise provides. Your committment is driven by your personal "why," and when that "why" is as powerful as this, nothing can stop you.
This fundraiser is to bring awareness and education to the powerful benefits that exercise provides to individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues. I am hoping to inspire more people to empower themselves through exercise and nutrition and raise money for an awesome foundation that focuses on inspiring young women through sports while acknowledging the powerful mental benefits.
