BENEFITING: CUMBERLAND MOUNTAIN COMMUNITY SERVICES
The Regional Deaf Services Program is raising money to increase the number of hours our staff can spend with deaf persons who have a serious mental illness, in their homes or in the community. We serve 62 people who are deaf or deaf-blind across a 17 county region in the rural Appalachian region of southwest, Virginia. Services are provided by sign FLUENT staff. We have a Licensed Professional Counselor with a Master's Degree from Gallaudet and two Case Managers who have a Bachelor's Degrees in Social Work. Two of our staff are Deaf themselves! This agency is licensed by the VA Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services. We provide therapy, case management, crisis services, and support services in the community.... in sign language. It costs our agency $20 an hour to put a staff in the home of a seriously mentally ill deaf person to check on their medications, help them solve problems in their life, help them access medical care, assist in solving problems, and or provide supportive counseling. Thank you!!
