June 2015 is when I received the call. No mother wants to tell their child they have cancer, but Deanna had to make the difficult words come across as strong as possible. It was fear of the unknown become reality: malignant melanoma, stage 3. It was emotional when we both started crying. The worst was not being able to tend to another for we were 1,200 miles away for she lives in Hot Springs, South Dakota, and I in Houston, Texas. She has endured radiation and chemotherapy, along with numerous CT scans, blood work, and surgery, with each an hours drive both ways. She lost her job for seemly unreasonable and skewed truths in the fall. My mother came for my graduation from college just this month and she looked withered, weak, and weight-loss had shown. I had just seen her in March and it struck fear in me she would not be around for my other graduations or my future wedding, let alone this year's end. I ask upon my fellow folks to take time out of your chaotic lives to donate a few dollars here or there for my mother, Deanna. Just once. The donations will be issued between a plane ticket, gas expenses, living expenses, treatment expenses, and medical bills only, and a prayer for safe travel to Houston to further her treatment at MD Anderson before I begin school in August. Her current debt with medical claims is $60,000. I wish everyone to be aware of skin cancer and how this illness becomes deadly, impactful, and costly. Please think of my mother and I as you view the sun every day as glory, for I thank the forgiving shade that shelters everyone from the harmful sunshine. Please pass this fundraiser on social media, email, and other platforms. I wish you and your loved ones a healthy life. Victoria, a concerned daughter.
