EVENT DATE: Jun 08, 2011
WHAT: Opportunity. op·por·tu·ni·ty/ˌäpərˈt(y)o͞onitē/Noun
1. A set of circumstances that makes it possible to do something.
This is what has been gifted to me through the grace and trust of the IDEX Fellowship in Social Enterprise based in Hyderabad, India. An opportunity to both live and work in India for the next 10 months beginning July 15th and I need YOUR help to make it possible for Jerome and I to engage this opportunity to the fullest extent!!!
HOW YOU ARE NEEDED: While this is a paid fellowship, I will only be receiving $430 a month to pay for basic living expenses in Hyderabad through my stipend. Jerome and I still have to pay for my visa, round-trip tickets, travel health insurance, malaria medicine and other required immunizations out of pocket. Additionally, Jerome will be staying here without income other than student loans and we desperately need some emergency savings should anything go wrong on either end.
PAY CLOSE ATTENTION: If you have been sent to this page chances are you have heard me talk endlessly about my upcoming trip to India. For that, I apologize for making your ears bleed. If you HAVE heard me talk about the program please feel free to skip to the bottom of this section. If you HAVEN'T heard me speak endlessly about said journey across the world feel free to read the below information about what I will actually be doing. Meet you at the bottom either way. :)
The IDEX ( IDea. EXecute.Solve) Fellowship was created in March of 2010 when Oglethorpe University and Gray Matters Capital merged to create the fellowship for post -graduates. It is a "paid, early entry, professional development program " and this year 35 new fellows, myself included, will embark upon an adventure to "serve low-income communities to develop a blueprint for change." While in Hyderabad, I will be working as a consultant to a single affordable school while learning about social entrepreneur concepts in emerging markets, develop professional skills in management, business development, analytics and assessments, and gaining experience within international communities. Each day will be different, challenging, and an adventure all on its own. Additionally, I will be working towards implementing new programs and systems to enhance the overall quality of the school. Examples of what some of the fellows from last this past cohort have accomplished include establishing a co-ed cricket league, creating career counseling and mentorship curricula, and operating an English immersion and gender empowerment summer camp for girls (Camp V.O.I.C.E funded through The Girl Effect).
We meet again!!! :) So, how can you help? Make a small donation of $5, $25, or if you are feeling brave $50 to help me get to India and to help start changing the world! ANY amount is appreciated and truly helps to make this work!
This is my beginning. My story. Help me write it. Thanks in advance!
