A brother Ari (POTS warrior) and sister Alix bicycling from Florida to California for POTS, an often debilitating neurological disorder resulting in, among other things, reduced blood flow to the brain, rapid heart rate and chronic fatigue. POTS will eventually become a household name, and this bicycle tour will accelerate that process. Goal #1: Use our cross-country bicycle tour to create national media attention for POTS. Specifically, our goal is participate in 10 news articles, 3 radio interviews and 3 television spotlights.
Goal #2: Raise funds to cover the cost of the bicycle tour, including campground fees, motels, food expenses and other contingency costs.
Goal #3: Raise $50,000 for the Dysautonomia International POTS Research Fund.
Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) is a disorder wherein the “autonomic nervous system” fails to properly circulate blood. Approximately 25% of POTS patients are disabled and unable to work. Symptoms can include fainting, near-fainting, migraines, extreme fatigue, nausea, rapid heart rate, shortness of breath, cognitive impairment, visual impairment, digestion issues, reduced blood flow to the brain and dramatic variations in blood pressure.
