Friends, Counting all donat…
Friends,

Counting all donations that were mailed in and performances done during the month of November, I am proud to let y'all know that this fundraiser raised $6,098 to support a dance space for Filipino Folk and Indigenous dance in Stockton, Ca!!!!!! YAAASSSS!

I am overwhelmed with gratitude by all who donated, esepically on the last day!!! Thank you for acting on that sense of urgency and for remembering to donate. We went above and beyond the goal!

UPDATE: With the extra $1000 raised, Kulintang Master Danny Kalanduyan has agreed to sell and ship his personal Kulintang, Agung, Babandil, and Gandingan currently in South Cotobato City, Philippines! Now we can begin playing Kulintang gong instruments to expand our arts practice to music with his blessing and guidance. This is an exciting time for us in Stockton as Master Artists are beginning to infuse our community with their expertise and resources. THANK YOU ALL for making this possible!

Also, today was the last day of my Alliance for California Traditional Arts Dance Apprenticeship with Eric Solano of Parangal Dance Company. Under his tutelage, I've learned a style of Pangalay technique that represents the T'au Sug, Yakan, and Maguindanao people of Sulu, Tawi Tawi, and Cotobato. Most importantly, I learned the importance of establishing relationships and creating dialogue with indigenous groups in the Philippines. I hope to join Eric and Parangal's mission to help create an awareness that indigenous communities exist and thrive today. With your generous support, I have the means to extend this transnational relationship to our Stockton community!

Y'all helped to make this happen. :)

On behalf of the Little Manila Foundation and the present and future folk dancers in Stockton, thank you for giving Filipino cultural dance a fighting chance to survive for the next year!

With gratitude and love,
Brian

Auntie Flora and Uncle Ron,

I wanted to personally thank you for investing in my efforts to save Folk Dance in our community. Your family and your grandchildren are welcome to come out and learn about their heritage through dance when they turn 5! I look forward to helping our community gain visibility through our cultural art. Thanks again!!!

Dearest friends, With two d…
Dearest friends,

With two days to spare, this fundraiser reached its goal of $5000!

Thank you for believing in a space for the Filipino-American community to come together and learn dances from the Philippines. Thank you for investing in the efforts of the Little Manila Dance Collective and the Little Manila Foundation as we preserve Filipino-American history and reignite a Filipino cultural presence through folk and indigenous arts.

Because of y'all, the Little Manila Dance Collective can purchase mirrors for our dance space, establish an initial costume budget, and invite Master Artists to train our current and future dancers.

Next, Little Manila Foundation's Executive Director Dillon Delvo and I are applying for a grant from the Stockton Arts Commission to purchase Kulintang ensemble gongs from Kulintang Master Artist Danny Kalanduyan's home community in the Southern Philippines. Our goal is to expose youth to live indigenous music and to accompany our performances of Pangalay dance movement from the Ta'u Sug, Maguindanao, and Yakan people of Mindanao. The ability for me to share this knowledge is in large part from the Alliance for California Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Program and the Master Artist I continue to study under, Eric Solano of Parangal Dance Company SF.

This is happening. And it's because of your beautiful generosity. So again, thank you for being a friend of the Little Manila Dance Collective. I promise to update you on the progress of our dance space. Continue to send us positive energy as we break ground on important cultural work for the Stockton community!

With love and hope,
