BENEFITING: American Cancer Society
EVENT DATE: Mar 20, 2011
Here's my story. Each year I run with a purpose in mind. I know what ever I do and accomplish in life it is not by the sole will of myself. So I take my blessings and use it as a way to give back in some form or fashion.
Mid year of 2010 I received a call from from my sister. A call which brought tears to my eyes. Not tears of despair but tears of wanting to say something encouraging but couldn't formulate the words. She told me she was diagnosed with an early stage of breast cancer. I sat on the floor of Barnes & Noble after the call and felt totally helpless. I had no answers, as I usually do. Our family made sure we did all we could, either by being with her physcially or in my case just being an ear to her concerns. We all stood by her side along with her family (two beautiful kids) during the surgery and did what we do best, be a family. Due to her strength, faith and support of her family and friends just approximately six months later we found ourselves playing Michael Jackson The Experience on Wii during Christmas as a family. I told my family that this year's marathon was dedicated to our sister for her strength and courage, the same strength and courage I will need to complete 26.2 miles.
The story doesn't end...
Not knowing that approximately at the same time of my sisters' ordeal my best friend's (who I consider a brother) father was diagnosed with throat cancer. When I received his call I could hear the mixture of anger and hope in his voice. I related immediatley and told him about my sister and we talked. I told him that his dad is on my dedication list for my run.
So I am dedicating my run to Avis Perry and Frank Brown Sr. There names will be printed on my event shirt to commemorate their fight. If you have someone in you life that you would like to commemorate please send me their names and I will add them to my shirt.
I would love to say THE END but the fight against cancer is ongoing so I am trying to contribute as much as I can to the fight. Please donate via of my fundraising site or donate to any of your trusted local or national foundations.
