BENEFITING: EMPOWER SPINAL CORD INJURY INCORPORATED
Hi all, my name is Brittany DelGrande and I got connected with Empower SCI via a friend of one of the founders. I am a PTA who is currently working towards pursuing my Doctorate in Physical Therapy, and was fortunate enough to spend one week at Empower SCI this past summer of 2013. Empower is program designed to give people with Spinal Cord Injuries a second chance at rehab, while in a comfortable environment surrounded by other people who are living with similar conditions. Volunteering at Empower was as much a life changing experience for me, as I'm sure it was for every one of the participants and other volunteers! It allowed me to make new friends, who became some of the best friends I have, even over such a short period of time. I believe this is because everyone involved in Empower SCI is dedicated to doing good in this world. Empower is a life changing experience and constant reminder for me to keep pushing towards my goal of becoming a PT, and more importantly, reminds me that no matter what, we can never lose hope! Hope for a better today, and a better tomorrow. I wish more organizations like this could exist; however, funding is short and EmpowerSCI runs solely off of fundraising and donations, so every dollar counts! Since my few knee surgeries over the last couple of years, my dreams of running marathons have altered, and I have turned my focus to biking. Inspired by an amazing co-founder Jess Goodine, and another Empower supporter, I am vowing to ride my bike 500 miles between now and the 2014 July program! I will be riding around my county and even making the treck from Boston to Cape Cod one weekend in April! Please help raise money for this amazing organization, and help change lives!
