Our ROW mission team recently returned to the Democratic Republic of Congo, where we once again visited hospitals and clinics in Kinshasa and the Kasai. First, it was great to see how the new mattresses are benefitting them; www.crowdrise.com/mattressesforcongo. But it doesn't take long for anyone to realize that we've just scratched the surface in helping these facilities with their needs. One of the needs that is very apparent is the need for new delivery tables in the maternity wards of the clinics and hospitals. The ones that are typically found there are similar to the examination tables found here in the US with stirrups attached. But they are old, particle board flaking apart, and very difficult to clean.
So what's the solution to this problem? There is a company in Kinshasa that manufactures a very basic delivery table, made with steel pipe and a padded, vinyl cushion. The cost for each table is $280.00. The goal of this fundraiser is to raise money to purchase and deliver one table to each facility in Kinshasa and the Kasai hospitals, where they are needed. I am still trying to the total number needed, both in Kinshasa and the Kasai, and also to get a quote for shipping the tables to the Kasai. In the mean time, I want to get the ball rolling, and have estimated the need at twelve tables at $280 each and shipping cost to Kananga at $350 each (remember, everything is shipped via air). I expect to have more accurate numbers soon, and will update these totals then.
Please spread the word about this new fundraiser, and please consider making an donation to help. Also, if you know of any groups or churches who would like to help as a partner in this effort, please let me know. Thanks.
