Toxic chemicals don’t belong in feminine products. Period.
Last fall, Women’s Voices for the Earth—an organization that amplifies women’s voices to eliminate the toxic chemicals that harm our health and communities—launched our latest and greatest campaign, Detox the Box, to get toxic chemicals out of these products once and for all.
We found that feminine products like pads & tampons can contain unregulated toxic chemicals linked to some serious health problems, like increased risk of breast cancer, reproductive problems, asthma, and allergic reactions. Unfortunately, because pads and tampons are regulated as “medical devices” and not “personal care products,” companies aren’t legally required to disclose any of the ingredients used in these products.
We needed an effective—yet fun— way to get this serious message to a whole lot of women.
So we spoofed Justin Timberlake’s SNL skit Dick in a Box music video (seriously). Detox the Box, our latest (and greatest) spoof video is aimed at raising awareness around this issue and moving a very large corporation to take chemicals out of their products.
Those toxic chemicals in your feminine products don’t stand a chance against our dance moves, creative costuming, and of course, sound science on how to protect your health!
This video, which we’ll release May 23rd, would not have been possible without incredible support from our community: a talented, professional team of videographers, choreographers, dancers, and musicians… and even a fancy ad agency from L.A.!
But we haven’t crossed the finish line yet.
The real work is just beginning. We need your help with the post-production and launch. To really make sure that EVERY woman in America (and every guy, too!) sees this video, we’re launching our first crowdfunding campaign. Our goal is to raise $15,000. With your help, we can release a video that will knock your socks off—and scare the pants off of any corporation that thinks it can hide toxic chemicals in products that affect our most sensitive body parts.
