Hello! My name is Denise Bates. I may not have been born and raised in this community but it is certainly the place I call home and the community in which my children were born and are being raised. I am originally from the Chicagoland area but moved to the Champaign-Urbana area to attend the University of Illinois. I met my husband, who was a local, while I was in college and convinced him to move to the Chicagoland area with me so that I could attend law school. After law school, we decided that we wanted to move back to the CU area to call it home and raise a family. I am a partner at the law firm of Thomas, Mamer & Haughey, LLP. I have been married to my husband, Justin, for 12 years and have two wonderful children, Hayden (6) and Morgan (3).
I have had a great opportunity to be involved with several local non-profits and try to give back to the community every chance I get. I served as the President of the Junior League of Champaign-Urbana from 2014-2015. I am currently in my 12th year in Junior League serving as Past President. While in League I was exposed to the Eastern Illinois Foodbank when the Junior League of Champaign-Urbana partnered with EIF to start the Backpack Buddies program. My favorite volunteer shift was stuffing backpacks for the program. I love volunteering and giving back to this community. My time spent volunteering made me very aware of the growing need for hunger relief in this area.
I am honored to be a part of the 2016 Eastern Illinois Foodbank's Prom Court. I am so excited to help such a worthy cause fight hunger in our community. I hope that you will support this effort to end hunger in this area and help crown me Prom Queen by making a donation to the Eastern Illinois Foodbank today. Every $1.00 donated counts because every $1.00 donated will provide a family with 5 meals. Please support me and the Eastern Illinois Foodbank by donating money today.
