THE SAMARITANS
THE SAMARITANS SAYS:
Dear friends, family and sup…
Dear friends, family and supporters of The Samaritans RI "Cross the Bridge to Hope" at the 2014 Citizens Bank Pell Bridge Run,

In less than 24 hours, Team Samaritans will make its second crossing of the Pell Bridge to raise awareness of suicide prevention and the work of our agency and its volunteers.

Even up to yesterday, I was told stories of suicide attempts and completed suicides. My heart aches for every hopeless and alone person who believes suicide is their only option. My heart also aches for those who are caregivers or are grieving the loss of a loved one.

Since 1977, The Samaritans of RI's volunteers have received more than 500,000 calls and logged tens of thousands of visitors to our website. Suicide knows no boundaries affecting all of our 39 cities and towns.

Over the last 13 years our funding losses have been devastating but we haven't given up! Your support gives us the strength and resources to continue.

Please know that your donation directly support our RI based charitable organization. Our board, staff and volunteers, live, work and donate their time in our state.

Thank you again to everyone!

Thank you for your support of Team SamaritansRI!

Our goal this year is $30,000 and with your help we are 51% of the way there! Over the span of the last ten years, we have lost more $50,000 in funding which provided the needed funds our Crisis Hotline, Safe Place Grief Support Group, Youth and Teen Education and Community Education programs. In spite of these losses, we have never given up on continuing to serve Rhode Islanders - the hopeless, alone and suicidal, caregivers as well as those who are grieving a loss.

We are truly Rhode Islanders helping Rhode Islanders!

Please spread the word that we care, we listen and we help!

Encourage your family and friends to join you by donating through www.crowdrise.com/samaritansri2014

Thank you for helping to reach the finish line!

RUN, JOG, WALK TO SUPPORT SUICIDE PREVENTION IN RHODE ISLAND

SUPPORT TEAM SAMARITANSRI!

As the Executive Director of The Samaritans of Rhode Island, I am excited to help create and participate in our first Team Samaritans RI to run in the Citizens Bank Pell Bridge Run. This event will hopefully be an annual fund raiser for our organization and will grow each year.

This event will also be our newest effort to help break the stigma associated with seeking help for suicidal ideation and for grief support when someone has lost a loved one or friend to suicide.

In more than 25 years of work in the nonprofit world, nothing has captured my heart and my soul quite like suicide prevention.  I made the first donation of $100 to our TEAM in honor of our volunteers, past and present, who listen to the hopeless, alone, suicidal and the grieving. They are truly special individuals who listen with unselfish compassion to the most pained among us.  I am so proud of each and everyone one of them.

Our goal is $30,000. Funding will enable The Samaritans to keep our volunteer based programs free of charge to all Rhode Islanders.

Thank you!
