THE STORY:

Dennis will be getting in the tank in support of the Boys & Girls Club of Chattanooga.

E. Dennis Culver, Jr. is Vice President & Chief Audit Executive of BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, a not-for-profit organization that is recognized as the leading provider of health care solutions in Tennessee. Founded in 1945, the Company provides a comprehensive range of group and individual health insurance plans and products to more than 3 million people, paying $9 billion in health care benefits and employing more than 5,000 people. As the Chief Audit Executive, Mr. Culver has overall leadership responsibility for the Internal Audit, Claims Audit, Provider Audit, Quality Assurance, External Audit Coordination and Internal Control Teams.

Prior to joining BlueCross in 2005, Mr. Culver served as Assistant Vice President of Customer Care Financial Services for Unum, Inc., the world’s leading provider of disability income protection. Unum is traded on the New York Stock Exchange. During his tenure with Unum, Mr. Culver led the Customer Care Financial Services division which included the financial consulting unit, financial recovery unit, tax reporting group and the claims accounting group.

He joined Unum from Siskin Hospital for Physical Rehabilitation, where he was Controller. In addition to responsibilities for the accounting & finance function, Mr. Culver also served as the hospital management liaison to the physicians in the physical medicine and rehabilitation residency program. Siskin Hospital is dedicated exclusively to physical rehabilitation and offers specialized treatment programs in brain injury, amputation, stroke, spinal cord injury, orthopedics, and major multiple trauma.

Mr. Culver started his career in public accounting with Walsh & Coyner, P.C., before moving to Pershing Yoakley and Associates. At both of these firms, he managed audit and consulting engagements for companies in the health care, education and non-profit industries. His clients included hospitals, universities, physician organizations, and healthcare related companies.

Mr. Culver graduated from Auburn University in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration - Accounting. He is a Certified Public Accountant, Certified Internal Auditor, and a Chartered Global Management Accountant. Mr. Culver is a member of the American Institute and Tennessee Societies of Certified Public Accountants, and Financial Executives International. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Boys & Girls Club of Chattanooga. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Chattanooga Chapter of Financial Executives International. He is a past Board Member of the Leadership Chattanooga Alumni Association.
