EVENT DATE: Aug 03, 2013
We want our wedding to mark the beginning of a lifetime of shared charitable work and believe International Justice Mission (IJM) and the Abundant Life Church Community Kitchen Project are great organizations with which to celebrate this occasion.
International Justice Mission:
IJM is a powerful force in the fight against global slavery and other forms of violent oppression. Did you know that there are more slaves today than at any other point in human history? IJM combats this evil by rescuing victims of oppression, working with local law enforcement to bring perpetrators to justice, and providing aftercare for survivors of such abuse. If you would like to read about specific examples of IJM's efforts, see http://www.ijm.org/news.
IJM was founded by Gary Haugen, a Christian lawyer (and fellow Harvard grad!) working for the Department of Justice who was the Officer in Charge of the U.N.'s genocide investigation in Rwanda. He founded IJM along with other Christian lawyers, investigators, and social workers, based on the Biblical call to justice articulated in Isaiah 1:17: "Seek justice, protect the oppressed, defend the orphan, plead for the widow." Today, IJM continues this work in countries all over the world.
Abundant Life Church’s Community Kitchen Project:
Abundant Life Church (ALC) has been our church home for the last five years. During this time, we have seen the church consistently serve the Cambridge community through events like neighborhood block parties, educational forums, entrepreneurship camps, clothing exchanges and serving dinner to the homeless on Christmas day. We admire how ALC lives out their faith in a way that practically and holistically meets the needs of their community.
We ask you to donate specifically to their new Community Kitchen Project. Having been well used, ALC's current kitchen is in need of updates in order to maintain and enhance our service to the community. Your support of this project will enable us to provide resources such as health and nutrition seminars, cooking demonstrations to enhance wellness and life-skills, affordable community space, and meals to the homeless, all areas of need in our city.
All donations made to ALC will be directed exclusively to this project.
Both organizations have 501(c)(3) status allowing you to make tax-deductable donations.
We thank you in advance for your generosity and support!
