I fell into this organization looking for a running club and a coach in the pursuit of fitness, and gave my club dues to the organization that sponsored the runners - the RMH of Providence. I soon realized how awesome this organization really is - providing room and board for families that are trying to support their kin through tough times and helping to ease the ridiculous financial burdens and the logistical challenges of travel that occur with illness. I respect family enormously, and thus the cause.
I run for RMH in Providence, but the organization is the same regardless of location. I'd love to do my part to keep this group up and running strong. Any donation to this is going to be met with thanks, from both me and local RMH-sponsored running club, and especially my coach, who is deeply involved in the Providence branch. As for me, this race is a warmup for Nationals and the World Championship Olympic Distance Triathlon in September, and as a member of Team USA 2015 I would love to carry the RMH jersey into this race, and see this money put excellent use. Whatever you can donate, it will help. Maybe not so much me, but the families who rely on the RMH to keep them in touch with their kin.
From the RMH itself: Ronald McDonald House New York provides a temporary "home away from home" for pediatric cancer patients and their families. The House is a supportive and caring environment that encourages and nurtures the development of child-to-child and parent-to-parent support systems. Ronald McDonald House New York is the largest facility of its type in the world.
It costs the House $295 to house each family, each night, and while families who stay at the House are asked to donate $35 per night-- no family is ever turned away if financial hardship prevents them from doing so. The rest of the House's costs are entirely supported by foundations, corporations, and individuals, like you, who share a primary concern for the brave young children & their families who come to the House during the most difficult of times.
