"A great thirst is a great joy when quenched in time." Edward Abbey, Desert Solitaire
THE STORY: I know this launching is a little close to the start of my Badwater 146 crossing attempt but I wanted to ensure that I made it through the rigors of training before I started fundraising. Now I'm five weeks away from the crossing and feeling really good.
BADWATER 146 (Crossing): This is a crossing that is 146 miles in duration and is completed in one continuous push from the lowest to highest points in the United States. The crossing starts in Badwater Basin (-282 below sea level) and ends on the summit of Mount Whitney (+14,505 feet). The rules are simple:
1) The attempts must take place in the July-to-August "window" to officially count.
2) It must be done beginning between 6:00 a.m. and 11:59 a.m. to count as an "a.m. start". Any other times are considered "p.m. starts".
3) Crew vehicles are allowed.
4) Runners are allowed to leave the course as long as they return to that exact spot when they return and continue from there, sacrificing all time spent off the course.
FUNDRAISING: I am raising funds for the Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape (SERE) Association Memorial fund. The SERE Association is a Not-for-Profit organization that brings together the Past, Present, and Future SERE Community members supporting the mission: Return with Honor. The memorial fund was created to assist SERE Community members in need when faced with life-altering conditions and challenges.
THE CATCH: I will be the last to donate to this fundraising event. I'll match the funds raised by a certain percentage based on my overall time performance for the crossing. The percentages are outlined below: Minimal match, regardless of time or DNF will be 5%
Finish time of 48hrs or greater: 10% personal match
Finish time of 48hrs or less: 20% personal match
PLEASE NOTE: All of my travel and race expenses are paid for personal funds as well as sponsorship from Waypoint Professional Group. This means that 100% of the proceeds will go toward funding the memorial fund. Thank you, in advance, for your contribution!
"Benedicto: May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds." Edward Abbey, Desert Solitaire
