EVENT DATE Jun 16, 2014

THE STORY:

Greetings,

My name is Destiny Nyala Ndea Sharpe. I want to extend a special thank you to those who contributed to my fundraising campaign to go to Ghana this summer.  Unfortunately, I was unable to raise the rest of the funds needed to go to Ghana this June 2014, but I will try to go again next year.  As I’ve stated before, my primary goal is to practice law particularly, Youth Justice. Instead of the trip to Ghana this summer I have been recognized as a high-achieving high school student and been invited to attend the National Youth Leadership Forum (NYLF): Careers in Law and CSI at George Mason University this summer! I will be joining other outstanding students from throughout the country for this hands-on exploration of the fields of law and forensic science. At NYLF Law & CSI, I can explore my options for the future – both in college and in my future career. I will be learning directly from leaders in these fields when I participate in engaging workshops with some of our nation’s most preeminent jurists, lawmakers and legal scholars. At the National Youth Leadership Forum (NYLF): Careers in Law & CSI, I will:

  • Be recognized for my academic achievement.
  • Visit prominent law schools, courts of law and forensic science institutions. Washington, DC area
  • Enhance my scholastic credentials on the way to meeting my future academic and career advancement goals.
  • Gain an inside perspective into the challenges faced by today’s professionals.
  • Hone leadership abilities that will benefit you in college and in your career, including decision making, critical thinking and public speaking.

During the program, I will gain hands-on experience when I step into the role of a prosecutor, defense attorney or witness in a true-to-life simulation that runs from crime scene to trial. Additionally, a Supreme Court simulation will challenge me with the same issues facing our Supreme Court Justices. Throughout the six-day program, I will participate in exciting site discoveries in and around Washington, DC – and share the experience with peers who have my same passions and interests. George Mason University sets very high standards for education, and is proud to offer me the opportunity to apply for college credit as an NYLF Law & CSI scholar.  Following are some of the notable individuals, law schools and organizations that have been a part of the NYLF Law & CSI program curriculum:

Washington College of Law, American University

Columbus School of Law, The Catholic University of America

Crime Scene Investigation Unit, Fairfax County

Police Department

George Mason University School of Law

No amount is too small and all will be humbly appreciated.  Thanking you in advance for your time and generosity.  Destiny Nyala Ndea Sharpe
