…Running 26.2, 13.1 Miles and 26.2 Relay to help underprivileged children to bring their dreams into reality!
Yes, you heard right! We are on our way to training for the Pittsburgh Marathon, and things are going great.
As many of you know, we are a proud Maharashtrian community (http://mmpgh.org) around Pittsburgh who kicked off a ‘HEALTHY MMPGH” campaign couple of years back to make the community fit and stronger. As part of the initiative many members, adults as well as children in the community have been participating in “Great Race” and “Pittsburgh Marathon” events for past few years. Our inspiration is on upward trend and we are looking forward to grow our spirits.
We must acknowledge all of our supporters and well-wishers from last year, with whose help, we successfully raised more than 10,000 dollars from a fundraising to support the causes of organizations such as Saksham (www.saksham.org), Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation of USA (www.ekal.org) and help heal the pain and grief of the families, suffered in the tragedies at local Franklin Regional High School.
This year, girls participating in the Marathon Relay team have decided to use “Destiny’s child” as their team name. We have decided to use that to change the course of the “destiny” of the underprivileged children by helping them on education and better future. We proudly announce to join our hands and legs to support the organization “ASHA FOR EDUCATION”. Asha for Education(TM) is an organization dedicated to the support of education for underprivileged children in India. Asha volunteers believe that education is a critical requisite and an effective catalyst for social and economic change in India. Each Asha chapter raises funds to support various education-related projects in India. In 2010, Asha chapters disbursed $3.1 million to over 196 projects all over India. Besides fund raising, Asha also acts as a network for various grass-roots workers and volunteers and non-governmental organizations.
We have kept no bar and pledging to raise as much money as possible by May 1st. Every dollar is important so donate any amount. We are running for all of those who can't run for their future. When you look at a three year old child who has lost his dreams just by a birth in the slum, your help will keep their future bright and alive. Running 26.2 miles and raising money seems simple compared to what these underprivileged children have been going through. What they would do with your support is priceless.
We plan to cross the finish line on May 3rd, we hope you will join us on this journey by making a donation to our campaign. Your motivation and support will make me even more determined at every mile of the race. We have a website that you can visit to follow our fundraising progress, as well as our running progress.
