Our country is living through a pandemic of childhood obesity. The children who suffer this scourge live shortened lives, and suffer the added menace of poor health, poor classroom performance, and lack of physical fitness. They are at higher risk of diabetes type II, and high blood pressure, as well as other cardiovascular disease. Childhood obesity leads to lowered self esteem, and a greater chance of depression. Among those persons who are normal weighted, there is one common element. Education. The higher the education, the less likely an individual is to be overweight, or obese. The Nutrition Education Project is a 501(c)3 organization that places certified teachers in the public schools who teach a qualified course in nutrition education in one of our countries hardest hit areas. It is the only program with demonstrated positive results. Currently, we need funds to continue our mission to bring this program to all children, and erase the trend to overweight, and obesity in our country.
