Anti-Human Trafficking Initiative
October 20, 2016
In 2015 Michigan was ranked second in the Nation for sexual human trafficking. In 2016, human trafficking had increased by 16%. In response to these staggering statistics, the Detroit Crime Commission has re-purposed some intelligence functions and partnered with law enforcement at all levels to uncover instances of human trafficking in Michigan. To date, the DCC has been successful at identifying, analyzing, and reporting human trafficking groups to law enforcement. We have referred several instances of human trafficking to the FBI, Department of Homeland Security Investigations and the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office. However, despite our success, the initiative has been unable to function at full capacity. If sufficient funding is acquired, the DCC’s service area would expand to include the counties of Oakland, Wayne and Macomb. Together, the Tri-County area represents 1/3 of Michigan’s population. The DCC has proven that using cutting edge software and highly trained intelligence analysts, we can uncover human trafficking groups in Michigan. The DCC relies on people like you to fund our initiatives. Together we can make a difference in the lives of many!
