Detroit Horse Power teaches at-risk urban youth valuable life lessons through riding and caring for horses. In 2016, we brought 91 kids to partnering horse barns outside Detroit for five-day summer camps. Our students learn how to ride, how to take care of horses, and - most importantly - skills that will help them success in school and in life. In their own words, our students said horses taught them...
"...To be a leader and be confident."
"...To be nice and kind and let some of your emotions go."
"...To communicate better."
"Horses taught me about life and about myself. They taught me to never give up and believe that I can do whatever I put my mind to."
We are working to expand this powerful learning opportunity in 2017. This fundraiser will allow us to hold eight weeks of camp that serve 150 Detroit kids!
This will also move us closer to our long-term goal of repurposing vacant land in Detroit for a new urban riding center that will be home to year-round youth programming and support a stronger community.
Thank you for supporting Detroit Horse Power today!
