Detroit Medical Orchestra

The Detroit Medical Orchestra (DMO) is a non-profit organization that exists to explore the connections between music and healing, foster partnerships among medical and health professionals, and provide community services and community arts services to improve the quality of life for all in the Detroit community.

The Detroit Medical Orchestra (DMO) was founded at Wayne State University (WSU) School of Medicine in 2010. Over the last 7 years, the DMO has significantly increased in size to a full symphony orchestra with more than 60 performers.

The DMO performs 3-6 concerts each academic year, usually in the Community Arts Auditorium of WSU in midtown Detroit. At each concert, on top of providing free musical experiences for the greater Detroit community, we raise awareness and philanthropic funds for a medically-related charitable organization chosen by the DMO Board of Directors.

A grant from A Community Thrives/Gannett Foundation will allow us to collaborate with other local educational and culture groups to develop a multi-dimensional artistic performance group. We will create a performance featuring orchestral music, dance, voice and choral music and theatrical elements, a project that requires resources outside our annual budget. The opportunity to collaborate with additional orgranizations will help provide grand, meaningful access to creative endevours, not always available, financially or locally, to Detroit community members. Thank you for helping us reach this goal to provide healing through music!
