Detroit Central City has been a provider of community mental health services for over 40 years. In 2013, the Board of Directors revised its mission to provide both behavioral and primary health care for residents of Detroit. Detroit Central City Health Center opened in March 2014 as the sixth Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in Detroit, providing services for the community, residents of public housing and the homeless. Patients are welcome with or without insurance. Tax ID 38-1986574

Detroit Central City Health Center opened temporarily in a storefront  on Woodward Avenue with two exam rooms and one Family Nurse Practitioner. DCCHC has 300 registered patients actively receiving services!

So we need to build a larger health center to accommodate the patients who want DCCHC for primary care...and we expect 4,000 within two years! We're going to renovate space on the 1st floor of our own building. The larger facility will be 5,000 sq.ft. with six exam rooms, triage for both behavioral health and primary care patients, health education rooms and a play area for kids. With more room, we'll be able to add additional medical staff, enroll more people in benefits and insurance, reduce ER visits and have a healthier community.

Emphasis is placed on using the latest in green technologies and construction techniques and the finish materials throughout the facility will focus on durability. Computer use is integrated into the design for staff to perform operational duties and communication within the health center. This design is a shift from the typical delivery system model of a community health facility to a patient-focused environment that promotes wellness, efficiency, durability and flexibility.

DCC pledged to raise half of the capital through grants and fundraising and is 78% to goal (the other half will be a bank loan).
