I am running the New York City Marathon in support of Project ALS. ALS is a brain disease that is closely related to Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and Huntington’s diseases.
Also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, ALS targets brain cells in the brain and spinal cord called motor neurons. Motor neurons are responsible for sending messages from the brain to muscles throughout the body.
In ALS, as motor neurons die, a person progressively loses the ability to walk, speak, swallow, and breathe. ALS is usually fatal within 2-5 years of diagnosis.
I hope that you will consider supporting me in the the hope of funding scientific research that will one day lead to better therapeutic strategies and ultimately a cure for ALS.
