BENEFITING: DREAMFAR HIGH SCHOOL MARATHON
ORGANIZER: DREAMFAR HIGH SCHOOL MARATHON
EVENT DATE: May 03, 2015
It's my second year volunteering with Dreamfar at Needham High School. I love Dreamfar for many reasons. To start, it's a lesson in perseverance and an immense personal challenge. Most importantly for me, I value the community and relationships Dreamfar builds.
This year, my colleague Will and I have team of eleven girls. Our Dreamfar team started working together in November -- what a journey it has been. This gaggle of vibrant and fun young women meet outside my office 2-3 times a week for our training runs. We always ask each other the usual questions - "How cold is it out?" "How many layers are you wearing?" "Can I have a hair tie?" "How many miles today?" And then, once we finally get out on Webster Street, the conversations turn to topics that range from the innane to the intellectual.
I really love working with these students and I am humbled by their commitment, courage (seriously, imagine running a marathon in high school!) and kindness to one another. Yesterday, we hit the 20 mile mark and I couldn't be prouder.
Dreamfar has been a gift and I see what it does for the students, both my students at NHS and the many other Dreamfar students, leaders and mentors we run with on Saturday mornings.
Thank you for reading this and for considering a donation. Providence here we come - 26.2 together!
