BENEFITING: DREAMFAR HIGH SCHOOL MARATHON
ORGANIZER: DREAMFAR HIGH SCHOOL MARATHON
EVENT DATE: May 03, 2015
Dear Friends and Family,
On May 4th, 2014, I ran in the Providence Marathon. It was the culmination of months of hard work and dedication. When I first decided to attempt running 26.2 miles, it seemed like an unachievable goal. However, within a few months, I went from no training whatsoever, to running more than I ever thought possible. This was thanks to a phenomenal group called Dreamfar High School Marathon Team. Dreamfar is a non-profit organization that provides free coaching and mentoring to high-school students in the Boston area. It is the only program of its kind in the entire country. I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to be a part of this team. I would never have been able to get to the start-- let alone the finish--of a marathon without the support of my amazing teammates, mentors, and dedicated volunteers. So many people stand to benefit from this unique experience. In training students to run a marathon, Dreamfar also teaches important life lessons about achieving your goals, working hard, overcoming challenges, and finishing what you start. The first Dreamfar team consisted of just nine kids, in 2008. Since then, it has expanded to include seven high schools, and well over a hundred students. This has presented some financial difficulties for the program. As already mentioned, students participate at no cost to themselves. Dreamfar pays for all race fees, transportation, medical services, and equipment. As a non-profit organization, we depend on charitable donations and grants for funding. If you have the means to help support our team, we would really appreciate it if you could donate. Every dollar helps. Your money would go to making sure that every student has the opportunity to take part in this once in a lifetime experience. You can donate through my crowdrise.com fundraising page. If you would like to find out more information about Dreamfar, you can visit their website, www.dreamfarhsm.org or their Facebook page. I thank you for your support!
